The Center for Young Women’s Development is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is the nation’s first employment,
leadership, and advocacy program run entirely by and for young women who, in the wake of experiencing
incarceration and life on the streets, are working to transform their lives and their communities.
CYWD empowers young women by getting them out of danger and despair and into creating positive personal and social change.

Education Advisor:
The Center for Young Womens Development announces the Development Director position opening.
Position Overview:
The Development Director will be responsible for activities related to planning, execution and evaluation of CYWD's
fund development activities in order to maintain CYWD at its $1MM operating budget.
The Development Director will also manage communication and public relations related to fundraising activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing and meeting a $1MM annual fundraising goal
- Write grant proposals and progress reports for foundations and government contracts
- Manage the coordination of the winter direct mail appeal and donor communications
- Responsible for mail correspondence with donors and foundation officers
- Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in their role as fundraisers
- Work with Executive Director to develop and cultivate relationships with individual donors and program officers
- Implement strategies for obtaining major gifts
- Maintain and strengthen corporate and foundation contacts
- Work closely with high end donors to coordinate and manage fundraising house parties
- Manage execution of special events, including annual winter awards ceremony
- Coordinate and manage informational events for Program Officers from local and national foundations
- Develop and maintain strategic development relationships with individuals, foundations and corporate supporters from prospect identification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship
- Analyze development activities and report regularly to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
- Manage donor database using Giftworks and FileMaker Pro software
- Manage the development and production of marketing and promotional materials required for fundraising
- Supervise Communications Manager
- Work with Communications Manager to implement a marketing, communications and public relations plan for all CYWD development activities
Required Qualifications:
- Must have at least three years experience in high level fundraising, with a proven track record of having raised over $1MM
- Comprehensive understanding and three years experience with planned giving, annual fund, capital and endowment campaigns, government and foundation grants, strategic planning and event management
- Strong personal relationships with philanthropic communities locally and nationally
- Proven record of accomplishment of outstanding management and supervisory skills, including the ability to lead, train and motivate staff
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects in a complex, highly demanding and fast paced work environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro, GiftWorks PowerPoint and web-based research tools
- Excellent proofreading and editing skills
- Exceptional command of the English language
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Good interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with a broad range of the CYWD donors, board members, program officers and community members
- Demonstrated ability to achieve and sustain best development practices
- Ability to express the goals and mission of the organization through eloquent writing and oral communication
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills along with a superior record of ethical behavior
- Experience working with young people of color
- Experience with different writing styles (grant writing, technical/research and public/media relations)
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to young women, the juvenile justice system and disparities that impact urban population
